In den frühen 70er Jahren von einem englischen Pflanzensammler am Anden Pass von Vergara entdeckt. Als Beet-, Rabatten-, Topf-, Steingarten- oder Alpinumpflanze. Leicht zu keimen und zu kultivieren.

Sow late winter to mid spring at 15-18C (60-65F) on the surface of a good seed compost. Keep soil damp but not wet. Do not exclude light, sealing in a polythene bag after sowing is helpful. Germination usually takes 14-21 days. Don't let them dry out at any stage of their growth.

When large enough to handle transplant the seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots of a good potting compost and grow on under cooler conditions. Acclimatise to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost 20-25cm (8-10in) apart on moist well drained soil.

For pot plants, transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots, grow cool, well ventilated and give plenty of light but shade from direct sun. A weak liquid feed applied in mid summer is beneficial.

It will usually survive mild winters and preventing it from drying out in the summer will improve its survival rate.
