Eine stattliche, dekorative Pflanze mit hohen Stielen und in Klausen blühenden leuchtend orangefarbenen Blütentrauben. Ideal als Beethintergrundpflanze oder ein echter Gesprächsstoff als Kübelpflanze, im Wintergarten oder Innenhof.

Sow from mid February to March on the surface of a good seed compost just covering the seed with a thin layer of compost or vermiculite. Germination takes 14-21 days at 18-20C (65-70F). Sealing in a polythene bag after sowing is helpful. Lower the temperature after germination. The seedlings are naturally tall and look a little like nettle seedlings at first.

When large enough to handle, transplant the seedlings to boxes or 7.5cm (3in) pots. When well grown gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions and plant out in late spring 1-1.25m (3-4ft) apart in full sun and well drained soil.

In a warm sheltered spot they may overwinter successfully outdoors if protected from hard frosts with bracken etc. For container plants water freely from June to late August and sparingly through the winter when they will need a minimum temperature of 5-7C (40-45F). Cut back to within 15cm (6in) of the ground in late February.
