Approximate root length: 20-25cms (8-10 inches).
A revolutionary carrot that actually provides 33-35% more beta carotene value to your diet than any other carrot! The deep reddish-orange colour is uniform throughout the 10in long roots, which show remarkable resistance to growth cracks and internal greening - amazing in such a large variety!
Carrots prefer a deep rich, well drained soil which does not contain fresh manure. Sow from March to July. The soil should be moist and easy to cultivate, rake well and sow in drills 12mm (½in) deep, spaced 25-30cm (10-12in) apart. Carrot seeds can be slow to germinate especially if the soil is dry.
The thinnings will provide tender roots for salads etc. Harvest the roots as soon as they are large enough, any left in the ground in autumn should be lifted and stored in a clamp or in boxes of sand in a shed or other cool dry place.
Carrots make a healthy, nutritious addition to your daily diet. They are high in Vitamin A and beta-carotene, and rich in antioxidants.
