This Week at Chelsea 2008

Chelsea Flower Show Diary 2008

Friday 16th May

The build up is now in full swing. The landscaping of the garden is now almost complete. We are really pleased with it and already our corner greenhouse is creating a lot of interest. By chance the RHS have positioned a web cam on our garden so you can track its build up live by clicking on this link LIVE WEBCAM. There are about six web cams running so you will need to wait for our garden to show in the loop.

The fruit plants left at 4am this morning for the journey down to Chelsea. They have all arrived safe and sound and look fantastic. The vegetable plants have also arrived and look great, already for the start of the plant up.

As expected we have had a few hiccups but we are on schedule to be ready for Sunday afternoon when hopefully we can have a few moments to spare for a rest!

Look out for the Chelsea coverage on the BBC as our garden should be shown as we have been selected as one of the feature gardens. The BBC's coverage starts this Sunday at 5.05pm on BBC1.

Sunday 18th May

At last the garden is now almost complete, just the last few finishing touches. We are so pleased with the garden, it looks fantastic. The garden has already generated so much interest in the run up to the show as it highlights some very newsworthy topics such as carbon footprint, renewable energy, growing your own fruit and vegetables and food miles.

We really hope that all of the visitors to the show enjoy what we have created and take home a few ideas of how they can transform their garden. Even if you have a limited space (even a balcony or windowsill) you can still grow vegetables such as salad leaves or spinach. If you have a little more room (and you do not need a lot as our 5m x 5m shows) you can have a go at growing your own potatoes in bags, or growing exotic varieties such as sweet potatoes or apricots in your own back garden.

Don't forget to look out for the Chelsea coverage on BBC 1 today at 5pm. Follow the BBC's Chelsea coverage HERE.

Monday 19th May

It's judging day! We have made our final touches and all we can do now is cross our fingers. The judging in the Great Pavilion starts at 2.15pm but we won't know what medal we have been awarded until we arrive at the show tomorrow morning.

There will be lots of coverage of Chelsea on the BBC today as follows: 12:30pm BBC1, 7:30pm BBC1 and 8:00pm BBC2. Follow the BBC's Chelsea coverage - click here.

Tuesday 20th May

After a sleepless night, we arrived at the garden this morning to find our award ready and waiting for us. We were awarded a Silver Knightian award - click here for the full list of awards. We are delighted with the award after all the months of hard work.

The show has opened to the public today and the interest in our garden is just over whelming. Look out for the BBC's coverage on Thursday night when Thompson & Morgan will be featured. If you saw the interactive coverage last night, you will have seen Carol Klein talking to one of our expert's on the garden about sweet potatoes - Carol was very impressed and plans to grow some in her own garden. If you would like to have a go at growing sweet potatoes then we still have some available to purchase, but hurry as stocks are limited - click here to purchase..

If you would like to purchase any of the varieties that are featured in the ‘Our Food, Miles or Metres? Garden then click here.

Wednesday 21st May

Chelsea definitely has a green and white theme this year and the standard of design and planting is very high. Fruit and vegetables feature in many of the gardens at the show and reflect the 'grow your own' fever currently sweeping the nation.

If you would like to create a little bit of Chelsea in your own garden then have a go at growing some of the varieties listed below which are featured in various gardens and displays at the show such as The Cancer Research UK Garden and The Leeds City Council Garden 'The Largest Room in the Garden'.
