Althaea officinalis alba

A selection of the true Marsh Mallow with soft grey foliage and stems with heart-shaped leaves, finely toothed and pure white five-petalled flowers. Enjoys full sun and a damp situation, hence most likely the reason for its name of 'Marsh Mallow'. Wonderful back of border plant, flowering all through the summer months and an essential part of any cottage garden.

Althaea rosea Chater's Double Apricot

This magnificent strain, with fully double flowers of rich apricot on tall imposing spikes of blooms, gives an air of stately splendour. One of the finest background plants for the border and is equally effective when grown in small groups. Usually flowers in its second year. Flowers mid to late summer. Height 1.5-2m (5-6ft).

Althaea rosea nigra

Tall strong stems bearing chocolate maroon flowers, becoming almost 'black' towards the centre. This is a unique variety creating an impressive impact against most backgrounds. Flowers mid to late summer. Height 5ft.

Althaea rosea Powder Puffs Mixed

This magnificent strain contains a wide range of colours varying from red, pink, rose and white to yellow, and the imperial spikes of blooms give an air of stately splendour. Borage

A beautiful upright herb with rough leaves covered with silvery hairs and most attractive celestial blue flowers beloved by bees. It's an annual growing to 45-90cm (18-36in) which self seeds happily. Cooking: Added to summer drinks and wines because of its, cucumber flavour. Chopped leaves make a healthy soup or YOUNG leaves can be dipped in batter and lightly fried until crisp. Finely cut leaves make a delicious sandwich filling. Companion Plant: Grow it close to tomtoes to attract bees which fertilise the tomato blooms, and anything else in the vegetable garden. Nature's Remedy: A fine source of calcium and potassium and is recommended for toning up the glandular system, and all bronchial, lung and chest disorders. Prolonged use is not advisable. A Fleuroselect Bronze Medal winner, this easy to raise hardy annual will flower virtually all the summer. A wide colour range of fully double blooms with a compact habit of 30cm (12in) height by 23cm (9in) spread make this a superb bedding mixture.
