Description
Something different for the border. This drought tolerant perennial is quick growing, with masses of 'Mexican hat' blooms all summer, aloft blue-green foliage. Grow in wide drifts to create a natural 'prairie' effect in the garden. Prefers a fertile, well-drained soil in full sun.
Sowing Instructions
Sow February to June. Place seed on the surface of a good free draining, damp, seed compost and cover with a very fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Seal container inside a polythene bag and place at 15-20C (59-68F). Germination can take 1 to 4 months, but is often quicker. Do not exclude light, as this helps germination.
Growing Instructions
Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into pots. Grow on in cooler conditions for 10 to 15 days before planting out after risk of frost, 60cm (24 inches) apart. Plants may prove hardy if wet winter conditions are avoided. |
