Description

Easy and fun to grow, producing a mixture of decorative fruits, with smooth and unusual spiky skins. An annual climber making an intriguing and decorative border or container plant. Pick fruits and use indoors in autumn displays lasting for up to 3 months.

Sowing Instructions

Sow April to May. Sow each seed 5cm (1in) deep on its edge in pots or trays of good seed compost at 68F (20C) under glass or in a propagator. (it is important to sow the seeds on their edge, otherwise they may rot if sown flat). Protect emerging seedlings from direct sunlight to avoid scorching.

Aftercare

Feed with potash fertiliser once fruiting commences and water and mulch regularly. Pick fruits and use in decorative displays as they will last for up to 3 months. Prefers well drained, moist, rich soil in full sun.

Nutritional Information

Cucumbers are 96% water, low in calories but high in potassium. Avoid peeling as the dark green skin is rich in carotenoid antioxidants.
