Description
Thymus fragrantissimus. Traditional flavour of Old English Thyme but with a refreshing orange scent and pale pink flowers to attract passing bees.
Sowing Instructions
Sow February to April thinly on the surface of a free draining, moist seed compost. Cover with a sprinkling of vermiculite or compost. Place container in a propagator, or in a sealed polythene bag, at about 13-15C (55-60F) until germination which averages 21 days.
Growing Instructions
Transplant when large enough to handle into 75cm (3in) pots and grow on steadily. Can be grown on a windowsill if trimmed to keep compact. Alternatively plant outside 30cm (12in) apart after all risk of frost has passed. Prefers a well drained soil in full sun for best flavours.
Aftercare Instructions
Keep well watered until established.
Kitchen Notes
Flavour guide: Strong flavour so use sparingly. Ideal flavouring for roast meats, stews, casseroles, stuffing and bouquet garni. Adds a delicious flavouring to ice cream. |
