Dark green, glossy 'baby leaves' with full mildew resistance to provide healthy crops over a long sowing period.
Sow March to September, at 2 week intervals, thinly, 12cm (½ inch) deep in drills 30cm (12 inches) apart in well-drained, fertile soil, which has been raked to a fine tilth. Water ground regularly, especially in dry periods. Thin out seedlings at an early stage, to 10cm (4 inches) apart. Keep cool and moist to prevent running to seed. Alternatively, leave unthinned to produce 'baby leaf' crops.
Popeye was right! You can eat no better vegetable than spinach as it is rich in Vitamins A and C, beta-carotene, lutein (which helps protect against eye disease) and dietary fibre.
