Description
This premier variety heralds a new era for the flavour of cabbage. Tightly packed, creamy-yellow hearts of crisp leaves which have a butter-like flavour peppered with a hint of spice. Versatile to any season and cropping around 65 days from transplanting. The medium-large heads hold well in the ground and are slow to crack. It's compact habit makes it ideal for smaller kitchen gardens.
Sowing Instructions
Sow February/March under glass 1.5mm (1/16 in) deep in good seed compost. Germination takes 4-10 days at 18-20C (65-70F). Sowing can also be made outdoors March/April in a well-raked seed bed. Before planting, rake in 3oz. sq. yd of a balanced fertiliser. Sow thinly 12mm (1/2 in) deep in rows 23cm (9in) apart. Keep the soil moist until germination.
Growing Instructions
Transplant when large enough to handle into boxes 5cm (2in) apart. Gradually acclimatize indoor plantings to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting out in April-May, 60x60cm (24x24in) apart. Water until established and throughout any dry spells. For outdoor plantings, transplant 60cm (24in) apart at the 5 leaf stage in good, firm, soil. Water in dry weather and give liquid feed as the heads start to develop.
Aftercare Instructions
To avoid the danger of Clubroot grow your Brassicas in a different site each year so that they only occupy the same spot once in four years. |
