A Peruvian fruit suitable for frost-free areas or conservatory growing. Succulent, sweet fruits are produced on mature plants during late summer. Remove the skin and slice raw in salads or soak in honey for a refreshing breakfast!
Sow March to April on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays. Cover seed with a sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Keep at a temperature of between 15-20C (59-68F). After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged; germination will usually take 21-30 days.
Feed with balanced liquid fertiliser every 3 weeks, and water sparingly during winter. Top dress or pot on in spring . For growing outdoors in warmer regions, provide a fertile, moist, well-drained soil in full sun part shade.
