Description
British bred monogerm variety, producing only one seedling per seed cluster, reducing the need of thinning out. Smooth skinned, round roots are ideal as a 'baby beet' or as a mature root, high in sugar content for the sweetest of flavours. Good resistance to bolting, leaf spot, downy and powdery mildew.
Sowing Instructions
Sow March to July. Sow thinly, 1cm (½in) deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart.
Growing Instructions
Thin seedlings if necessary to 5cm (2in) apart when large enough to handle for 'baby beets', or to 7cm (3in) for larger beets. Harvest when roots reach about 4cm (1½in) in diameter or more. The smaller the roots are more tender.
Aftercare Instructions
Beet can be stored by lifting the remaining roots; twist off the tops and store in boxes of slightly damp sand in frost-free shed or garage.
Kitchen Notes
Solo F1 has a high sugar content so is delicious as a 'Baby Beet' raw in salads. Larger roots can be wrapped in tin foil and baked. |
