T&M have been assessing extensive trials of early maturing varieties and believe that Nelson is the best 'Peer Gynt' replacement. Nelson produces smaller, more even sized buttons of a darker green colour and a sweeter taste.
Plants have good vigour, and a strong root system so they remain upright for easy picking.
Sow mid February for August picking or March to April for picking September onwards.
Sow seeds into individual pots or a seed tray of a proprietary compost and cover with 6mm (¼in) of compost or vermiculite, at a minimum of 15C (60F), until germination which takes around 7 days. Alternatively, can be sown thinly in a prepared seedbed 13mm (½in) deep, allowing 30cm (12in) between rows.
Brussels Sprouts are a good source of Vitamin C and high in antioxidants.
