Almost certainly the purest and deepest colour in existence. Lush, rich, broad leaves, like velvet, lightly serrated and nearly black in colour. Superb mixed with summer patio container plants.

Sow at any time of the year on the surface of a good seed compost but do not cover with compost. Sealing in a polythene bag after sowing is helpful. Do not exclude light. Germination takes 10-20 days at 20-30°C (70-85F).

When the seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into 7.5cm (3in) pots and finally 15cm (6in) pots.

In the home, grow in a well lit spot, in the greenhouse provide a little shade. Remove the flower spikes as they will weaken the plant.
