Derived from oinos (wine) and thera (a hunt) the name evening primrose comes from the large bright flowers opening between six and seven in the evening. The roots are eaten in some countries in the spring, and the French often use it for garnishing salads. Applications: astringent, sedative, gastro-intestinal disorders, asthma and whooping cough.
