Description
An early flowering meadow perennial, the yellow nodding flowers of cowslip punctuate the grassland areas of our Wildlife Garden from mid-April to late May. This fragrant plant once adorned chalk meadows and pastures as well as hedgebanks and railway embankments throughout downland areas of Britain. Richly associated with plant folklore, cowslips were traditionally harvested to make wine in rural areas. Add cowslips to rough grass or spring meadow areas and once established they will reward you by continuing to spread both by seed and vegetatively. An early nectar-producing plant, important for insects, including bumblebees and the brimstone butterfly, cowslip is also the food plant of the rare Duke of Burgundy fritillary. Each SeedPotT Greetings Card has a transparent resealable pot which keeps your seeds in the best possible condition. They contain seeds which transform into the flower on the front of the card. Follow the sowing instructions carefully and watch them grow over time into a unique and colourful expression of natural beauty. |
