Spectacular and exotic, a self-clinging climber that produces a proliferation of rich crimson, rouge-red trumpet shaped blooms. Suitable for pergolas, south walls and fences. Moderately vigourous and hardy in many areas.
Sow in trays, pots, etc of good seed compost in a propagator or warm place to maintain an optimum temperature of 70-75F (20-25C). Sow in well drained compost, just covering the seed with compost, but do not exclude light, which is beneficial to germination. Sow February to July. Sometimes slow to germinate. If no germination after 8 weeks, pre-chill for 3 weeks.
They prefer a well-drained soil, with plenty of compost added and a sheltered site in full sun. Provide something for them to climb and tie in during the early stages of growth.
