Significant advantage to the home gardener. Once mature, remains in harvest condition for several months. Very hardy with dense, dark green heads. An outstanding performer in difficult conditions.
Sow late winter to mid summer in a specially prepared seed bed or coldframe (for late winter) or for most reliable germination in seed boxes in heat. Sow very thinly 1cm (½in) deep in 15cm (6in) wide rows.
The soil should be well drained, with some humus, and firm, not recently dug.
Eaten raw or cooked, cabbages are an excellent source of Vitamin C. Try to use all healthy outer leaves, as the darkest green leaves contain the most nutrients.
