Sow April to June. Soak the seed in warm water for 24 hours before sowing. Sow thinly, 1cm (½ inch) deep in drills 30cm (12 inches) apart in any deep and moist, well-drained soil, which has had well-rotted manure incorporated during the previous season. You should also water the soil well before sowing. Germinate can be very slow, however it is essential to keep the ground moist at all times, especially during hot weather.
Leaves are ready for harvest within 6-8 weeks from sowing, harvest as and when required. If foliage yellows, cut back to base and feed with liquid fertiliser to promote new growth.
