Dark red, good coloured round roots with crisp, gently pungent flesh which is slow to turn 'pithy'. Suitable for outdoor crops or for forcing under glass or in frames for even earlier crops. A versatile, easy to grow salad crop. Prefers a moist, well-drained soil in full sun. Harvest almost all year round.
Sow March-September outdoors or October-February under glass. Sow thinly, 1cm (½ inch) deep in drills 30cm (12 inches) apart in soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Water ground regularly, especially during dry periods.
Keep plants cool and moist to prevent running to seed.
Radishes are rich in Vitamin C and potassium and contain sulphur compounds.
With their unique flavours, Radishes and Fennel make a great pairing for salads.
