Récolte:
Harvest from late summer into autumn.
Désignation
Long roots with rich orange core and a crunchy sweet taste. Chantenay hybrids are renowned for their taste, and this is one of the best. Maincrop maturity that bulks up well to give good weight roots that store really well for autumn and winter use.
Semis
Sowing Time: March to July. Sow thinly, 1cm (1/2in) deep in drills 23-30cm (9-12in) apart in well-drained, fertile soil, which has been raked to a fine tilth. Keep moist until germination.
Culture
Thin out as soon as seedlings are large enough to handle, to 5cm (2in) apart. Later thinnings will be suitable for use in the kitchen. Grow Spring Onion White Lisbon next to carrots as the smell helps deter Carrot Fly.
Entretien
Water soil well before harvesting to aid extraction. The roots can be lifted and stored in layers of peat or sand in a frost-free place for winter use. |
